In support of Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont we will celebrate Germany’s most time-honored traditions right here in Townsend, Tennessee!
Our Second Annual Oktoberfest will be held on Saturday, September 16th at Peaceful Side Social from 11am to 7pm to celebrate the time honored German tradition centered around food, fun, and festbier! This will be Townsend, Tennessee’s most fun event of the year, and one you won’t want to miss!
We will expand our Biergarten to be larger than last year with a massive festival tent, a stage, several guest breweries, a German Bier bars, a grilling area and lots of seating! You will enjoy an array of entertainment, delicious food and live music! Chattanooga’s premier Oktoberfest Polka band, The Wurstbrats, will be performing all day and this year the leader will be joining for an even bigger experience!

You must have tickets and a wristband to purchase alcohol inside of the festival. Tickets will be the only “tender” accepted in the festival. Anyone may enter the festival and participate, however they must have tickets if they want to purchase food and alcohol, which requires a wristband.
Parking will be available in the main lot, and a secondary lot located in the grassy area next to the Townsend Post Office.
This is a kid-friendly and leashed pet-friendly event.

Tremont Institute will be joining us for the festival! Visit their tent to enter a raffle for 2 spots for the exclusive Monarch Tagging event in Cades Cove this Fall, one night stay at Dancing Bear Lodge and Dinner for 2 at Dancing Bear Appalachian Bistro. More details to come.
Games (free to participate):
- The Wurstbrats will host 3 Chicken Dances (a traditional Oktoberfest dance)
- Team BUSAR will be hosting a Pull Up competition, a Blindfolded Stein Race, Tug O’ War for kids, and several other Search and Rescue related activities throughout the evening.
- Costume Contest – contestants take the stage dressed in their best Oktoberfest wear – there will be a first, second, and third place and winners receive a Peaceful Side Social gift card!
- Stein Holding Contest – This will be an exciting new addition to our Oktoberfest– we have joined the U.S. Stein Holding Association as an official venue for the Tennessee State Championship Stein Holding contest with the Finals being held at Schulz Brau on October 14th! Tennessee State Steinholding Championship
This year we are an official venue for the Tennessee State Steinholding Championship! We will host and Womens AND Mens rounds during the festival, and the last one standing will go on to compete in the Final Championship Round at Schulz Brau Brewing in Knoxville!
